She is a friend of God, called for such a time as this.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

I was a Mom of 4 at the time and I had many moments of feeling overwhelmed at the task of not only protecting my children from evil but also training them in righteousness.

One night in that season, a black panther was prowling slyly across the street from my home. I was on my front lawn and noticed him. He darted across the street, ran up the hill of my front lawn, and into my kitchen. Immediately, I was there as well, standing on my kitchen table pointing towards the door and demanding it get out of my home. I. Was. Mad. Then I woke up.

I immediately knew this was a warning dream of the enemy planning an attack on my family and specifically my children. A holy anger rises up in a Mom when something or someone is against her children, and did it ever that day.

I knew on that day that I was in a battle and that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities.” (Ephesians 6:12)

One thing I learned from that moment was that I could not fight alone. I needed to lean into the One who has already won the war and the One who created my children for a destiny who were born for such a time as this.

The location of attack became my secret war room.

One thing about stay at home moms is that we can get a little crazy-looking in our kitchen. Mine became a place of worship and intercession. Starting in that season to present day it has continued to be that place where I come to the Lord out of desiring intimacy with him, or my immense need for his direction, crying out on behalf of others, etc. During that season a spiritual mother came into my kitchen and said: “It feels different in here.”  She didn’t have to explain, I knew it. “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) The Lord drew me in and created a burning altar on the grounds of the location the enemy was wanting to attack. I live in a new home now but the kitchen continues to be my war room. I dance, I sob, I pray in tongues, I blare worship music, I call unto the Lord and He answers me every time. Within days or even hours He will show me small victories like a softness in one of my kid’s hearts, or a new joy released in my children that was lacking, or give me direction in how to proceed through a situation. One time I just held my hands out and said: “please God, carry this. It’s too heavy.” I literally felt Him lift it off my shoulders once again showing me that I am not alone and his yoke is easy and his burden is light.

The Lord in His kindness and perfect wisdom awakens us to the battle and our need of Him so that we can learn to go deeper and live in the fullness of who He has called us to be. For both ourselves and our families.

What battle are you facing today in family, relationships, finances, purpose or any area where The Lord is awakening you to be alert and sober so you can fight the good fight of faith and take hold of the eternal life which you were called (1 Timothy 6:12)?

He is faithful to complete the work He began in you!
