Lesson 15 - WHY HOLINESS?

Holiness is not an option to the Christian faith. Instead, It is a Gracious opportunity for you to walk in the fullness of all that God has called you to be--TODAY! You are an ordinary person called to do extraordinary things.

“… ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. ‘Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God. (1 Peter 1:15-16; Lev. 19:2-3)

Holiness – God’s character is Holy and He calls us to be Holy just like Him. Holiness is not an option to the life of a Christian, or for only a select few mighty saints. Instead, it is the plan of God for your life.

Holiness in the Bible – Holiness is not just lists of “don’t do”. Instead, holiness is found throughout the scriptures. Below is a list of words, from the Greek language, found in the New Testament, that explain holiness:

  1. Holy – (Greek for holy is “Hagios”: adj.) holy means: revered, sacred, and consecrated to God.
  2. Saint – is the plural (more than one) of the adjective “holy”; saints means “holy ones”.
  3. Sanctify – is “to make saint” (saintly or holy) (i.e. sanctification; you are being sanctified now)
